It’s that time of year when everyone gets dressed up, and scary things lurk in dark corners. Creatures of the Night at Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa is a fun way to celebrate the Halloween season with children of all ages. Ajax was excited to dress up as Captain America; Buttercup couldn’t wait to get dressed up as a not so wicked witch. When we got there, a little rain didn’t stop us from braving the werewolves at the entrance.

The rain also didn’t stop the crowds, as seen at the busy entrance.

We took a trek down a dark path with illuminated eyes watching our every move, and we spotted Ajax’s favorite animal at the zoo, the illusive sloth bear!

From there, we moved on to Pumpkin Palooza, located in the children’s area of the zoo.

This area features a variety of spooky characters who were all gracious enough to pose for pictures with Ajax and Buttercup. There were a number of activities for the little ones, but the lines were a little long when we arrived.

We went to the Ghoulish Dance Party located in the Africa section of the park next. Ajax and Buttercup had a great time dancing with the characters. We could barely get them to stop dancing when it was time to go.

We had a good time enjoying the Halloween festivities of Creatures of the Night!

The Africa Tunnel was dark and spooky, adding to the eeriness of the event.

Suggestions:

  • Get there early. Parking is at a premium. We saw many families having to cross busy traffic to get to the zoo.
  • Be ready for lines. This is a very popular event; patience is a virtue.
  • Bring headphones or ear protection for little ones who are affected by loud situations.
